Robots in Film and Television Survey
Here, at last, is my Eventually Famous Robot Survey, or, Robots in Film and Television Survey. I published it first in the Cuplog [Edit: link updated], on my Cuparius.com site. Inspired by the Coolest Movie Robot poll posted at Slashdot.org, this survey has a longer list of choices, and it excludes nonrobots such as the computer HAL 9000, which will be reserved for an upcoming "computers only" survey. There will, of course, be inadvertent omissions, so if you wish to enter your own, do so. I'll probably include it, with a note at the bottom including the date it was added. My rules for inclusion are: All robots must be characters appearing in a live-action film or television show. Please note I have included only some of the most notable robots from any given film or show. I will not list every droid from every Star Wars movie, for instance. [Edit: So much for that. It seems I am striving to list every robot after all. (18 August 2007)] Also note I have not specified the name of the robot in Alien, as it would constitute a spoiler for those who haven't seen the film. To participate, write a comment including:

  1. If I could own a robot, I would choose _____
  2. If I were a robot, I would be _____

and/or:

  • The three best robots in film and television are _____

That's it. I just thought it might be fun.

[Edit: The list has been moved to Robots in Film and Television at Cuparius.com.]

Since I did the other half on Cuparius, here are my top three robots.

1. R2D2. No question.
2. Marvin the Paranoid Alien from Hitchhiker's. Alan Rickman is the voice!
3. Box from Logan's Run. "Fish, and Plankton, and Protein from the Sea."

In the movie. In the BBC television series from 1981, David Learner is the voice. (That's the version with which I am familiar; I never saw the movie.)

And he's a Paranoid Android, my kooky friend :-)
LOL

Excellent timing. I was just trying to remember the name of the (robot)dog from Battlestar Galactica.

1)Cylons(original). They just looked so bad-ass to my young self when that series first came out
2)Maximillian. I haven't seen The Black Hole since I saw it at the Fox Theater at Woodville Mall. Going to have try to find it.
3)Mechagodzilla. He was like Godzilla, but a ROBOT. Oh, and he could fire missiles from his fingers. Genius.

I suppose I ought to answer the survey, too.

1. Anti-Maria from Metropolis
2. Jet Jaguar from Godzilla vs. Megalon
3. Giant Robot from Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot [a.k.a. Jaianto robo]

I am still debating the other two questions... So many choices! Maybe I should have phrased it, "If I could own three robots, I would choose..."

O.K., I have decided.

1. If I could own a robot, I would choose "Mysterious Woman" (from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow).
2. If I were a robot, I would be Jet Jaguar (from Godzilla vs. Megalon).
